Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (North-West) Salihu Lukman has refuted reports of his appointment to head the secretariat of an anti-Tinubu coalition preparing for the 2027 elections.
The coalition, established in March and reportedly led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and has attracted defectors from the ruling APC.
In a statement released Thursday, Lukman dismissed a Vanguard Newspaper report claiming his appointment, describing it as “completely false” and urging the public to disregard the story.
“No such decision has been taken,” Lukman stated, adding that negotiations among coalition leaders are ongoing.
He also denied reports that the coalition had adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official platform during a Tuesday meeting on May 20, 2025.
“The truth is negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well and final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election will be taken soon,” Lukman explained.
The former APC official assured that once negotiations conclude, coalition leaders will make formal announcements about their structure and political platform.
The coalition’s formation represents a significant political realignment as opposition figures and APC defectors unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.
