Edwin Clark, former Federal Commissioner for Information and South-South has formally requested the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to arrest and prosecute Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
Clark’s appeal follows Wike’s recent inflammatory remarks, which he made during a press briefing at his residence in Asokoro on Thursday.
Clark expressed grave concerns over Wike’s comments made during a recent state congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in Port Harcourt. In his speech, Wike had threatened to incite violence against PDP governors who he claimed were attempting to seize control of the party’s structure in Rivers State.
Wike’s comments included, “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you say you don’t want peace – anything you see, you take.”
During Thursday’s briefing, Clark condemned Wike’s statements as a “blatant disrespect” towards President Bola Tinubu, who appointed him. He characterized the remarks as “unrestrained” and potentially treasonous, arguing that they could incite nationwide violence.
Clark pointed out that Omoyele Sowore, the Presidential Candidate of the African Action Congress, and #EndBadGovernance protesters had been detained for similar offenses. He urged the IGP to take similar action against Wike and compel him to retract his provocative statements.
Clark’s call for action underscores the gravity of the situation, emphasizing the need for law enforcement to address what he views as a serious threat to national peace and stability.
