Abike Dabiri, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has identified a Canada-based woman accused of threatening violence against fellow Nigerians living in Canada.
A video that has circulated on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) shows a woman making threatening comments during what appears to be a virtual meeting on TikTok. Dabiri has identified the speaker as Amaka Patience Sunnberger, who made anti-Yoruba statements and expressed intentions to harm Yoruba and Benin people.
In the video, Sunnberger is heard saying, “Record me very well; it’s time to start poisoning the Yoruba and the Benin. Put poison in all their food and water at work. Let them die one by one.” She claimed her threats were a response to perceived hostility against the Igbo community.
Sunnberger, who resides in Ontario, Canada, is also heard daring anyone to report her to Canadian authorities.
In her response, Dabiri posted Sunnberger’s photo on X and confirmed that the TikTok account associated with the video has been deleted. “This is the lady behind the voice. Amaka Patience Sunnberger,” Dabiri wrote.
“A group of Nigerians in Canada are now formally reporting her to the relevant Canadian authorities.”
The incident underscores concerns about the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians abroad, especially as the diaspora community in Canada continues to expand. Over 71,000 Nigerians have reportedly gained Canadian citizenship in the last 19 years.
A user who shared the video on X cautioned fellow Nigerians in Canada, stating, “Be careful out there, folks.”
