Petrol prices have increased at MRS and other filling stations in Abuja and its environs, with the retail price at MRS outlets rising to ₦1,409 per litre from ₦1,370.
A market survey conducted on Monday morning showed that the Dangote Refinery-backed MRS outlets had raised their pump prices by ₦39 per litre following adjustments over the weekend.
The new price was observed at MRS filling stations in Kubwa, Katampe, Gwarimpa and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.
Similarly, Ranoil and AA Rano increased their petrol prices by ₦10 per litre, bringing the cost of the product at their outlets to ₦1,410 from ₦1,400.
The latest adjustments come amid discussions by the Federal Government over measures to reduce the cost of petrol for consumers.
The Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele, had proposed reducing petrol prices to ₦1,350 per litre at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations as part of a fuel price relief initiative.
However, the proposal has drawn attention to differences in pump prices across retail outlets, with fuel marketers and retailers reportedly calling on the Federal Government to extend the initiative to other filling stations.
They argue that making the price relief available across more outlets could help a wider range of consumers benefit from any reduction in petrol costs.
The latest increases could place additional pressure on motorists and businesses that depend on petrol for transportation and daily operations, particularly as fuel prices remain a major factor in the cost of goods and services.
With the proposed government-backed price reduction yet to translate into uniform pricing across the outlets covered by the survey, consumers will be watching for further developments in the retail fuel market.
