The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared the former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.
The anti-graft agency made the declaration in a notice issued on Wednesday, identifying Maina as a 61-year-old indigene of Biu, Borno State.
The EFCC urged anyone with information that could assist in locating the former pension task team chairman to report to the commission or the nearest police station and other security agencies.
The commission listed its offices in Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Gombe and Port Harcourt as points where information about Maina could be reported.
Maina previously faced prosecution by the EFCC over allegations involving pension funds, money laundering and fraud.
According to the EFCC, Maina was convicted in November 2021 after being found guilty on a 12-count charge involving money laundering, fictitious bank accounts and fraud relating to approximately ₦2 billion.
The commission said he was sentenced to a cumulative 61 years in prison, with the terms ordered to run concurrently.
The EFCC also said the court ordered Maina to refund ₦1 billion to the Federal Government.
The latest wanted notice comes against the background of Maina’s previous legal battles with the anti-graft agency, which had earlier described him as wanted over alleged pension fraud and money laundering.
In its latest notice, the EFCC appealed to members of the public to assist in providing information that could lead to Maina’s whereabouts.
The commission specifically urged anyone with relevant information to contact its offices nationwide or the nearest police or other security agency.
