President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Akeem Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), with the Presidency expressing confidence in his capacity to strengthen and modernise the nation’s examination body.
The appointment was confirmed on Thursday in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu expects the newly appointed registrar to deploy his extensive expertise in technology, institutional reform, and examination systems to reposition JAMB for greater efficiency and innovation.
“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge, and practical insight into the operations of JAMB to take the critical educational organisation beyond the laudable heights achieved by his predecessor,” the statement read.
Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s leading academics in Computer Engineering and digital systems management.
A distinguished scholar and systems expert, Aina holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
Currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina began his association with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained firsthand experience in national admissions administration and data-driven institutional processes.
The Presidency noted that the early exposure helped shape his long-standing contributions to examination reforms, digital transformation, and systems optimisation within Nigeria’s education sector.
With more than 15 years of post-graduation experience, Aina has advised both federal and state governments on digital transition, institutional reform, and technology-driven public sector operations.
At the age of 39, he became one of the youngest professors of Computer Engineering in Nigeria and is now set to become the youngest Registrar in JAMB’s history.
He has also worked as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board, where he provided expertise on ICT infrastructure, examination integrity, and digital process management.
Professor Aina is a member of several professional organisations, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
