More information has emerged after a deadly attack on a church in Kaduna State, where armed bandits killed several worshippers and abducted many others during an Easter service.

The incident happened at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Arikon community, Kachia Local Government Area. Reports indicate that the attackers struck while the service was in progress, causing panic among worshippers and residents.

Security sources said the gunmen arrived on more than 20 motorcycles and surrounded the church before launching the attack. Some of them reportedly got down from their motorcycles and began shooting in different directions.

At least five worshippers were killed while trying to escape. They have been identified as Tanko Haruna, Waziri Agunu, Aminu Soba, Joseph Audu, and Adamu Jatau.

The attack also affected nearby areas. A worshipper at a Catholic church close to the scene was reportedly killed as people ran for safety.

In addition to those killed, about 29 people were abducted. Among them are Garba Tanko, his wife Lami, their daughter Rachel, and a grandchild, Moses Yakubu. Others taken include Rahab Usman and his daughter Victoria, as well as Sunday Ayuba. Dantani Alhaji, his wife Mary, and their three daughters—Helen, Rejoice, and Ahmadu—were also kidnapped.

Following the attack, security officials, including the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Mohammed, and a Nigerian Army commander, visited the community with a large convoy to assess the situation and coordinate response efforts.

Many residents have fled Arikon to nearby towns such as Katari, Jere, and Kachia out of fear of further attacks.

The incident has again raised concerns about insecurity in Southern Kaduna, especially during religious gatherings and festive periods.
