U.S. President Donald Trump declared that the United States will accept no agreement with Iran except “unconditional surrender,” a week after military action alongside Israel targeted Tehran.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER! After that, and the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s), we, and many of our wonderful and very brave allies and partners, will work tirelessly to bring Iran back from the brink of destruction, making it economically bigger, better, and stronger than ever before.”
He added: “IRAN WILL HAVE A GREAT FUTURE. MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!). Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
The remarks come a day after Trump insisted on playing a role in selecting Iran’s next Supreme Leader, following a U.S.-Israeli strike that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei along with several senior Iranian officials.
Iran’s 88-member Assembly of Experts is currently voting on the country’s next Supreme Leader, who wields ultimate authority over Iran’s political, military, and foreign policy decisions, as well as control over information.
