The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Obi announced his move on Wednesday in Enugu State, where he appeared alongside several political leaders from the South-East geopolitical zone to formally declare their membership of the ADC.
Speaking during the declaration, the leaders said the decision to align with the ADC was driven by their resolve to chart a new political direction for the country, citing dissatisfaction with the current state of governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to them, the move is aimed at providing an alternative platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s growing challenges.
They described the ADC as a credible vehicle to “rescue Nigeria from the poor governance of the APC” and reposition the country on the path of accountability, inclusiveness and development.
The development marks a major political realignment, given Obi’s strong following since the 2023 general election and his influence across the South-East and beyond.
