The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to Nigerian parents and guardians to closely monitor the activities of their children and wards to prevent them from being used to incite unrest during the upcoming nationwide protests.
This call was made during the 153rd meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC, as announced by the party’s National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, on Wednesday.
The ruling party also urged those organizing the protests to reconsider their plans, emphasizing that the government’s policies are designed to address Nigeria’s challenges, though the results may not be immediate.
In their statement, the APC acknowledged that while some of the protesters’ demands are political, others require constitutional amendments, which are currently in progress.
Basiru reaffirmed President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to revitalizing the economy, noting that the administration has inherited significant economic challenges since taking office in 2023. He assured that the President’s initiatives would eventually provide relief to the citizens.
“The NWC noted that many of the economic issues we face are global and require careful consideration and thorough brainstorming to resolve,” Basiru said.
He added that some issues raised by the protesters are political, while others are constitutional, requiring amendments that are already being addressed by the National Assembly.
The APC meeting called on protesters to trust in President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to improve the economy and reassured Nigerians that the current challenges would eventually be resolved.
“We urge parents and well-meaning Nigerians to keep a watchful eye on the movements of their children and wards to prevent them from being used to incite chaos,” the statement read.
The NWC also called for an emergency meeting of APC Chairmen from all 36 states for further discussions on the matter.
