Disgraced RnB Star Alleges Leak of Private Information During Chicago Custody
In a new legal development, disgraced R&B star R. Kelly has filed a lawsuit against U.S. federal prison officials, accusing them of leaking his private information to blogger Tasha K. The imprisoned singer, currently serving a sentence in a federal facility in North Carolina, claims that three unnamed Bureau of Prisons (BOP) officials accessed internal systems to divulge details of his activities, including email correspondence, private calls, and visitor logs during his custody in Chicago.
Kelly alleges that the prison officials entered into an agreement with Tasha K, a popular YouTube personality, to provide her with his personal information, potentially for financial gain. He contends that the leaked information damaged his reputation, invaded his privacy, and caused him emotional distress.
The lawsuit also targets the U.S. government, asserting negligence for allowing prison personnel to allegedly access and share the sensitive information. Kelly, along with his lawyer Jennifer Bonjean, is seeking substantial damages for the alleged privacy invasion.
Tasha K, who previously faced a defamation lawsuit from Cardi B, has denied any involvement in illegal activities regarding the acquisition of Kelly’s private information. The claims made by Kelly in the lawsuit date back to 2019, and they come after his conviction in his Chicago case.
The legal battle adds another layer to R. Kelly’s ongoing legal troubles, as he serves his sentence in a federal facility, and raises questions about the privacy and security of individuals in custody.
