In a victory for subscribers, MultiChoice, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has rolled back its recent subscription fee hikes following a court order.
The company had previously announced price increases due to “market realities” but faced a legal challenge. The court ruled in favor of the subscribers, forcing MultiChoice to revert to its previous pricing structure.
Effective June 16th, DStv and GOtv packages reflect the previous subscription rates across the board. DStv Premium is now N29,500, down from the proposed N37,000. Similar reductions apply to all other packages.
GOtv subscribers also benefit from the rollback. Super+ is now N12,500, while GOtv Super is N7,600. GOtv Max, Joli, and Jinja have also returned to their earlier prices.
Whether MultiChoice will comply with the court’s additional directive of offering a free month of service remains unclear. The company has not yet commented on the development.
This rollback comes after MultiChoice blamed economic hardship for the initial price hike. They cited inflation and a declining subscriber base as reasons for the increase.
This is a temporary win for subscribers as MultiChoice grapples with regulatory and market pressures in the Nigerian television industry.
