President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria and his Senegalese counterpart, Bassirou Faye, held discussions during Faye’s visit to Nigeria, focusing on cooperation to address regional challenges.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, emphasized the importance of unity in combating terrorism, human trafficking, and poverty in West Africa.

In a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu highlighted the need for democratic values and constitutional order to be upheld, emphasizing the significance of making citizens the central focus of governance. He commended Senegal’s commitment to constitutional democracy and urged collaboration to ensure the sustainability of democracy in the region.

President Tinubu also underscored the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Senegal, expressing optimism about the prospects for enhanced cooperation across various sectors. He called for joint efforts to address challenges such as human trafficking, terrorism, banditry, and poverty, emphasizing the importance of partnership in achieving sustainable development.

President Faye echoed sentiments of shared values and challenges between Nigeria and Senegal, advocating for the reactivation of the Nigeria-Senegal joint commission to bolster bilateral relations. He also highlighted the role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in regional integration and expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership in advancing the community’s objectives.

Both leaders emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to confront common challenges effectively, with President Tinubu’s experience and President Faye’s determination seen as valuable assets in achieving collective goals. They expressed optimism about the potential for strengthened cooperation to promote economic growth, development, and the well-being of their respective populations.
