The Senate Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro, has clarified the attendance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at the National Caucus meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Moro stated that Wike attended the meeting because he is a member of the party.

In a statement released on Sunday by his spokesman, Emmanuel John, Moro explained that according to the party’s constitution, Wike, as a former governor, is a member of the PDP National Caucus.

Moro emphasized that Wike was permitted to attend the caucus meeting because he has not been found guilty of any crime or penalized by the party.

“If actions had been taken immediately after the elections and people who are perceived to have acted contrary to the desires and yearnings of the PDP have been sanctioned, then we can say that having been expelled or suspended, you can’t be here, but as it is, none of such actions has been taken, so you can’t just ban people from attending meetings,” Moro stated.

He further highlighted that the Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committee, established during the last National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, is responsible for identifying instances of anti-party activities and recommending appropriate punitive measures against guilty members. However, Moro noted that this process has not yet been completed.

“Unfortunately, that hasn’t been done, and so to that extent, as a voluntary organization, if the members involved insist they are still members of the party until actions are taken by the Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committee, we want to take that they are still members of the party,” Moro concluded.
