In a demonstration of frustration, aggrieved women from Rivers State stormed the office of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) on Tuesday morning, demanding action over the prolonged absence of power supply in the Mile 2 and Mile 3 areas of Port Harcourt.

Expressing their grievances, the women highlighted the adverse effects of the power outage on their daily lives, particularly citing the unbearable heat as a resultant factor. They claimed that the lack of electricity has led to discomfort, affecting their marital relationships to the extent that their husbands no longer engage in intimacy due to the oppressive heat.

Carrying placards adorned with messages reflecting their plight, the protesters marched through various streets including Dim, Wokoma, Wokoma Lane, Obaziolu, Dim Lane, Egbuagu, Azikiwe, and Ojoto, chanting songs in solidarity.

Some of the inscriptions on their placards read: “No light, no bill”; “Dim street, no light”; “No light, no payment”; and “The heat is too much.”

The demonstration underscores the frustration and inconvenience experienced by residents in the affected areas due to the prolonged power outage. It also highlights the broader impact of inadequate infrastructure on the well-being and daily lives of individuals and families within the community.
