Anglican Bishop Urges Federal Government to Declare Three-Day Prayer and Fasting for National Intervention

In a solemn plea, Most Rev. Joseph Akinfenwa, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Ibadan, has called on the Federal Government to declare a three-day period of prayer and fasting for divine intervention in the country’s affairs. The call was made during the Advent Carol of Nine Lessons and Songs held in Ibadan.

Expressing concern over the prevailing situation in the country, particularly the escalating costs of food items, transportation, and accommodation, Bishop Akinfenwa emphasized the need for urgent divine intervention. He acknowledged that while global challenges persist, the circumstances in Nigeria demand collective action, not just from the government but from all citizens.

The Anglican Bishop highlighted the abundance of natural resources in the country and suggested that the government should take more substantial measures to address the challenges faced by the populace. Akinfenwa proposed that those in government could lead by example, considering salary and allowance cuts to allocate funds for the welfare of the less privileged.

He further advised the Christian faithful to focus on the imminent second coming of Christ, emphasizing that recent global events point to the eventual fulfillment of biblical prophecies. Akinfenwa urged believers to deepen their relationship with God and consistently practice His teachings.

Encouraging a shift in priorities, the Bishop stressed the importance of rejecting the love of money and embracing a culture of forgiveness despite challenges. He urged adherence to biblical principles, cautioning against distractions posed by contemporary issues and emphasizing preparedness for Christ’s return.

Akinfenwa reminded the faithful that the Advent season is one of joy, centered around celebrating the redemptive works of Christ. He concluded by urging everyone to find solace in God’s word, regardless of the challenges they may encounter.

As the call for a national prayer and fasting period resonates, it remains to be seen how the government and the public will respond to this spiritual initiative proposed by the Anglican Bishop.
