UNIJOS Students Protest Against School Fee Hike and Service Charges

In a demonstration of their discontentment, students of the University of Jos in Plateau State took to the streets on Tuesday to protest against a recent increase in school fees and other service charges imposed by the institution. The aggrieved students, wielding placards with various slogans, demanded an immediate reversal of these fee hikes.

The protest, organized by leaders of the Students Union Government, saw students blocking roads leading to the university’s campus. Their placards bore messages such as ‘If your children can afford the money, we can’t’ and ‘We don’t want to drop out of school’, highlighting the financial strain these increases were causing them.

The students emphasized that Nigerians were already grappling with a myriad of economic challenges, and any further increment in school fees and service charges would only worsen the situation. They urged the university authorities to reconsider their decision in light of the prevailing economic hardship faced by many.

This protest underscores the growing concern among students about the affordability of higher education in Nigeria. As the students continue to voice their grievances, it remains to be seen how the university administration and government will respond to their demands.
