The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has introduced Quick Response (QR) codes to enable eligible voters to identify Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection centres ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commission said the codes would be accessible through its official website and social media platforms, allowing voters to scan them and find designated locations where they could collect their voter cards.
Speaking at a press conference at INEC’s Lagos headquarters, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Ayobami Salami, called on eligible voters to collect their PVCs and confirm that their registration details were accurate.
Salami also urged residents to rely on verified information from the commission’s official communication channels to avoid being misled by inaccurate election-related reports.
He emphasised the need for eligible citizens to take an active part in the electoral process by ensuring they had completed the necessary preparations ahead of election day.
The introduction of the QR codes is part of INEC’s efforts to make voter services more accessible and reduce difficulties faced by residents trying to locate their PVC collection centres.
The commission also disclosed that preparations for the 2027 elections were ongoing, with attention focused on several operational areas, including the procurement and testing of voter accreditation devices.
INEC said it was also working to improve its result transmission systems, strengthen logistical arrangements and recruit and train personnel who would participate in the conduct of the elections.
The commission maintained that making PVC collection information readily available was an important step towards encouraging eligible voters to obtain their cards well before the polls.
It urged residents to take advantage of the QR-code system and other official information channels to confirm their collection centres and ensure they were prepared to exercise their voting rights in the 2027 general elections.
