ADC Accuses Tinubu Of Misleading Nigerians With Temporary Fuel Price Reduction

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the rising cost of living, describing the recent reduction in fuel prices as a temporary measure that would not provide lasting relief to Nigerians.

The party’s Jigawa State governorship candidate, Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, accused the Federal Government of failing to adequately address the economic difficulties confronting citizens since the All Progressives Congress (APC) assumed power in May 2023.

Nakudu made the remarks in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, according to Naija News.

He called on the Tinubu administration to introduce sustainable measures to ease the financial burden on households and improve the living conditions of Nigerians.

The ADC candidate argued that the one-month reduction in fuel prices announced by the government was insufficient to tackle the broader economic challenges facing the country.

He also linked the development to a proposal by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, the ADC’s presidential candidate, to restore fuel subsidy if elected president in the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu announced the removal of the petrol subsidy during his inauguration on May 29, 2023, a policy that has remained a major subject of political debate amid concerns over fuel prices and the cost of essential goods and services.

Nakudu maintained that Nigerians were still grappling with the effects of the policy and warned against viewing the temporary price reduction as a permanent solution to their economic difficulties.

He alleged that the measure was designed to mislead the public rather than address the underlying causes of the hardship.

The ADC chieftain further called for urgent and sustained government intervention to tackle the rising cost of living, insisting that a short-term reduction in fuel prices would not resolve the financial pressures faced by ordinary citizens.

He said the ADC was seeking to rescue Nigerians from the economic hardship and insecurity which, in his assessment, had characterised the APC-led administration.

The criticism comes as economic policies, fuel prices and the welfare of Nigerians remain key issues in the political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Federal Government’s response to Nakudu’s latest allegations was not included in the report.
