The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has arrested eight people in Kazaure Local Government Area over alleged homosexual acts following a complaint by a 22-year-old man.
The Public Relations Officer of the board, Dauda Hadejia, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
According to Hadejia, the complainant alleged that nine individuals had engaged in sexual acts with him on different occasions and claimed that he later contracted HIV, which he attributed to the alleged encounters.
He said the young man approached the Hisbah authorities seeking justice over what he described as deception and actions that had negatively affected his life.
Following the complaint, Hadejia said operatives launched an investigation and began efforts to locate the nine individuals named by the complainant.
“Our men swung into action after receiving the complaint and so far eight suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect,” Hadejia said.
The Hisbah spokesman added that the eight arrested suspects allegedly admitted during preliminary investigations to having engaged in the acts with the complainant.
He said the board had gathered relevant information and evidence which would be presented before the court.
Hadejia also quoted the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr Hussain Baban, as urging parents to pay closer attention to the upbringing of their children and the company they keep.
“Dr. Baban urged parents to pay greater attention to the upbringing of their children and monitor the people they associate with,” Hadejia said.
The deputy commander-general also appealed to members of the public to fear God and remain conscious of the consequences of their actions.
Hadejia said investigations into the matter were still ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after the process is completed.
He further said the Hisbah leadership appreciated the Jigawa State Government for its support and cooperation in enabling the board to carry out its responsibilities.
