The Nigeria Police Force has paraded four suspects, including two nephrologists, over an alleged organ-harvesting syndicate operating in Nasarawa State.

According to the police briefing, the suspects allegedly targeted vulnerable young men and lured them into donating their kidneys, with some victims reportedly receiving payments far below the alleged value of the organs.

Police investigators said one alleged victim was paid about $1,250, while another reportedly received ₦7 million after his kidney was removed.

The authorities also alleged that members of the syndicate used forged documents to facilitate the procedures and conceal the identities of some of the people involved.

The documents reportedly included birth certificates, affidavits, consent letters and other identification papers.

During the briefing, one of the alleged victims recounted how he was deceived into agreeing to donate his kidney, according to the police.

A representative of Wellington Clinic, where some of the alleged procedures were reportedly carried out, also spoke during the briefing.

The representative claimed that the facility only provided the platform where the surgeries were conducted and denied knowledge of the alleged illegal activities involving the alteration of donors’ identities.

The police said the investigation is still ongoing, adding that efforts are being made to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly connected to the syndicate.

The authorities maintained that the suspects would face the law if found culpable, while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the alleged organ-trafficking activities.
