The leadership of the Izu Anioma Towns Union Abuja has cautioned presidents of Anioma town unions in the Federal Capital Territory against releasing official or personal information in response to a purported Federal Government census request that has not been verified.

In an advisory dated July 28, 2026, the union said it had become aware of a message circulating in the name of the Anioma Women Forum Worldwide (AWFW), asking town unions and communities in Abuja to provide details of their meeting schedules and the contact information of their principal officers.

According to the message, the information was allegedly being requested by a Federal Government ministry or agency for the purpose of documenting and conducting a census of town unions and communities.

However, the Izu Anioma Towns Union Abuja said its leadership had carried out preliminary inquiries but was unable to confirm the authenticity of the request with any known Federal Government ministry, department, or agency.

“We have not been able to verify the authenticity of this request with any known Federal Government Ministry, Department, or Agency,” the union stated.

It added, “We are not aware of any Federal Government initiative currently conducting a nationwide census or documentation exercise specifically targeting Town Unions and Communities.”

The union further questioned the credibility of the alleged exercise, noting that any genuine Federal Government initiative of such nature would ordinarily be publicly announced through official channels and would not be directed solely at Anioma communities resident in Abuja.

It also explained that issues relating to the administration and documentation of community associations are generally the responsibility of state governments and local government authorities rather than the Federal Government.

Consequently, the union advised all presidents of Anioma town unions in Abuja to refrain from releasing official records, membership information, or the personal contact details of their officers until the request has been independently verified through appropriate government channels.

“In view of the above, all Presidents of Anioma Town Unions in Abuja are advised to exercise caution and refrain from releasing official information, membership records, or the personal contact details of their officers in response to the circulated message until its authenticity has been independently verified through appropriate official channels,” the statement said.

The leadership warned that the unauthorized disclosure of organizational and personal information could expose town unions and their officials to identity theft, fraud, impersonation, misuse of data, unauthorized solicitation, and other security risks.

“The unauthorised disclosure of organisational and personal information may expose our unions and their officers to risks including identity theft, fraud, impersonation, data misuse, unauthorised solicitation, and other activities that may compromise the security and integrity of our communities,” it added.

While stressing that the advisory was not intended as an accusation against any individual or organization, the union described the notice as a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding Anioma communities and ensuring that official information is released only after proper verification.

“This advisory should not be construed as an allegation against any individual or organisation. Rather, it is a precautionary measure aimed at safeguarding our Town Unions and ensuring that official information is released only in response to duly verified and authorised requests,” the statement read.

The union further stated that any legitimate request from a government authority should be transmitted through established official channels and accompanied by the necessary documentation confirming its authenticity.

It also urged presidents of Anioma town unions to remain vigilant and to consult the leadership of Izu Anioma Towns Union Abuja whenever they are uncertain about requests seeking official information.

The advisory was jointly signed by the President of Izu Anioma Towns Union Abuja, Barr. Luke Enelichi, and the Secretary, Elder George Ugwunna.
