The family of Taraba State Deputy Governor, Aminu Alkali, has dismissed reports suggesting that Governor Agbu Kefas abandoned the deputy governor and his family during his prolonged illness.
Speaking with journalists on Wednesday at the deputy governor’s residence, Alkali’s first son, Mallam Ibrahim Aminu Alkali, described the reports as false, stressing that Governor Kefas has remained supportive since his father fell ill nearly two years ago.
According to him, the family has continued to receive encouragement and assistance from the governor, who has stood by them throughout the deputy governor’s medical treatment.
“I appreciate Governor Agbu Kefas for the love and support he has shown our family since my father’s illness began. Without God’s grace and the governor’s intervention, things would have been very difficult for us,” Ibrahim said.
He explained that the deputy governor initially received treatment in Nigeria before being flown to Egypt for advanced medical care. Following his return, he continued treatment in Jalingo and is now undergoing routine medical check-ups in Abuja.
Ibrahim noted that his father’s health has improved considerably over the past months, attributing the progress to divine intervention and the support provided by the state government.
“My father was first treated in Nigeria before he was flown to Egypt for further medical attention. After returning to the country, he continued treatment in Jalingo and is currently undergoing routine medical check-ups in Abuja, where we have seen remarkable improvement in his condition,” he stated.
He further disclosed that Governor Kefas personally ensured that medical expenses were covered and also made regular visits to check on the deputy governor’s condition.
The deputy governor’s son appealed to political actors to stop using his father’s health for political purposes, insisting that the governor’s commitment to the family has been unwavering.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Usman Madu, said the deputy governor has continued to receive all his statutory entitlements despite being away on medical grounds.
Madu added that Governor Kefas has consistently approved requests related to Aminu Alkali’s medical treatment without delay, describing the governor as responsive and compassionate throughout the deputy governor’s health challenges.
