The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Gabriel Pidomson, as its governorship candidate for the forthcoming election in Rivers State after he secured a landslide victory in the party’s primary.
Pidomson emerged winner of the exercise conducted across the 23 local government areas of the state, polling 112,068 votes to defeat five other aspirants in the contest.
The former SSG, who served during the administration of former Rivers State Governor, Celestine Omehia, is an indigene of Ogoni from Gokana Local Government Area.
Reports indicated that Pidomson was widely regarded as the preferred candidate of former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of the primary election.
The results of the exercise were announced on Saturday night at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt by the Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee in Rivers State, Carol Obaro.
According to the official figures released by the committee, Pidomson scored 112,068 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.
Sekonte Davies came second with 16,872 votes, while former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant, Farah Dagogo, secured 2,369 votes to place third.
Other contestants included Leloonu Nwibubasa, who polled 1,476 votes, Henry Ogbonna with 546 votes, and Allen Ezekiel Hart, who got 268 votes.
Declaring the result, Obaro said Pidomson satisfied all constitutional and party requirements to emerge as the ADC candidate.
“Therefore, the highest score here is 112,068 votes for Gabriel Pidomson and, having satisfied the requirements of the ADC and the constitution, scored the highest votes and is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected as the ADC governorship candidate in Rivers State,” she said.
