Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin has been removed as the Force Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, with Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid taking over the role.

Although the police authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the change, sources at the Force Headquarters in Abuja confirmed that Placid has been appointed to serve as the new Force PRO.

According to the sources, the position of Force Public Relations Officer is traditionally held by an officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, making Placid’s appointment consistent with established practice.

Hundeyin had assumed the national spokesperson role in September 2025 after previously serving as the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.

Meanwhile, the police leadership has also created a new department known as the New Media Office. Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa has been appointed to head the newly established unit.

The development comes shortly after Hundeyin publicly stated that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, would not be pressured into taking actions based on sentiment or emotional appeals.

In a post on his X account, Hundeyin stressed that the IGP would remain professional in handling ongoing matters before the courts.

“The IGP will not be goaded into taking needless actions. The case is already before a court of competent jurisdiction and is progressing well,” he wrote.

He further maintained that sentiments or emotional blackmail would not influence the police leadership, adding that the IGP remains committed to professionalism and accountability within the force.

Hundeyin also emphasized that any officer found culpable of wrongdoing would face appropriate sanctions, insisting that no member of the police force is above the law.
