The Izu Anioma Towns Union, Abuja, has announced plans to host the first-ever Anioma Cultural Festival in the Federal Capital Territory on November 8th at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki.

The festival, which will be held bi-annually, aims to celebrate the rich history, traditions, and resilience of the Anioma people from Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State.

Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, the President of Izu Anioma Towns Union, Chief Barr. Luke Enelichi, said the event would provide a platform to showcase the unique customs and values that define the Anioma cultural heritage.

“This festival is a celebration of who we are as a people. It brings together the diverse cultures from Aniocha, Ndokwa, Ika, and Oshimili areas that constitute the Anioma nation,” Chief Enelichi stated.

The festival will feature various cultural groups performing traditional dances, displaying artistic prowess, and exhibiting crafts indigenous to the Anioma people. A special highlight will be the prominent display of the revered ‘Akwa Ocha’ – the traditional white cloth that symbolizes purity, honour, and hospitality among the Anioma people.

As part of the celebration, awards of excellence and patriotism will be presented to distinguished sons and daughters of Anioma. Among the recipients is Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, who represents the Anioma people in the Senate and serves as Patron of the Union.

The organizers have invited members of the public, especially those from Anioma extraction, to attend the historic event and experience the rich cultural tapestry of the Delta North people.
