Barau Declares Total Allegiance to Tinubu: “I’m Loyal to Him 100%

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin has made a remarkable declaration of political loyalty, stating that he would accept any assignment from President Bola Tinubu without question, including a potential role as running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

The Kano North Senator’s unwavering commitment was laid bare during a Wednesday media briefing in Abuja, where he addressed growing speculation about his political future.

“If the time comes and he says, ‘I want you to work with me,’ I would say, ‘Thank you, sir,’ and I will do it. Whatever he asks me to do, I’ll do. I’m loyal to him — 100%,” Barau declared, leaving no doubt about his political allegiance.

The statement comes as various political groups have begun floating Barau’s name as a potential vice-presidential candidate for President Tinubu’s anticipated re-election bid in 2027. However, the Deputy Senate President has dismissed such discussions as premature, urging focus on current governance priorities.

Barau’s loyalty stems from what he describes as a father-son political relationship with President Tinubu. He credits the President with rescuing his political career during critical moments, particularly during internal party crises in Kano State that threatened his Senate ambitions.

The Deputy Senate President revealed how Tinubu personally intervened to secure his Senate ticket in 2023 and subsequently supported his elevation to the upper chamber’s second-highest position. This intervention, Barau suggests, has created an unbreakable bond of political gratitude.

“Mr. President is my political father,” Barau explained, describing their relationship as transcending ordinary political alliances. He emphasized that both leaders share progressive ideological foundations that bind them together beyond personal interests.

While acknowledging the speculation surrounding his potential candidacy, Barau criticized the timing of such discussions, arguing that the administration’s focus should remain on delivering governance dividends to Nigerians rather than engaging in electoral politics.

The Senator’s absolute loyalty declaration signals the strength of President Tinubu’s hold over key party figures and suggests a unified APC leadership structure as the party prepares for future electoral contests. His readiness to serve in any capacity demonstrates the hierarchical nature of political relationships within Nigeria’s ruling party.

Political analysts view Barau’s statement as both a display of loyalty and a strategic positioning that keeps his options open while maintaining party discipline. His emphasis on being “100% loyal” reinforces the culture of allegiance that has characterized the APC since its formation.

As speculation about 2027 continues to simmer, Barau’s declaration provides insight into how senior party figures are navigating the delicate balance between personal ambition and party loyalty in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
