President Bola Tinubu left Abuja on Saturday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, where he will join other African leaders at the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27–28, 2025.

The summit, organized by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, will bring together key stakeholders, including African leaders, private sector players, development partners, and civil society groups. The event aims to address Africa’s pressing energy challenges and foster solutions for universal energy access.

According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the summit provides an opportunity for African nations to collaborate on renewable energy solutions, expand energy access, and attract private sector investments. “This summit offers a vital platform for exchanging knowledge, expertise, and resources to tackle Africa’s energy challenges effectively,” Onanuga stated.

During the event’s first day, participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies, referred to as compacts, detailing their plans to achieve universal energy access within five years.

The second day will focus on adopting the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified roadmap that outlines Africa’s collective approach to achieving the Mission 300 target of universal energy access across the continent.

President Tinubu is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s dedication to improving energy access and its leadership role in advancing Africa’s energy sector. “The President will emphasize Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and its determination to drive transformative progress in Africa’s energy landscape,” Onanuga confirmed.

Accompanying President Tinubu on this critical mission are the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; and the Special Adviser on Energy.

The summit is anticipated to be a milestone event in reshaping Africa’s energy future by fostering regional cooperation and sustainable energy solutions.
