The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is at liberty to support and even lead the re-election campaign of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, Morka maintained that Wike’s political stance is protected under the constitution, despite his membership in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Morka noted that every Nigerian has the right to align with and campaign for any candidate of their choice, stressing that Wike’s declaration of support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition falls within his civic freedoms.

According to him, the FCT minister remains “a free agent” whose decisions should be respected by the public, regardless of party affiliations.

On the internal situation within the PDP, the APC spokesman dismissed concerns about the opposition’s ongoing reconciliation moves. Recent reports indicate that Wike’s camp has shown willingness to engage with a rival faction led by Tanimu Turaki, as part of efforts to resolve lingering disputes within the party.

Turaki had earlier confirmed that a fresh reconciliation process was underway following deliberations at a National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.

However, Morka said the APC is not distracted by developments within the opposition, emphasizing that the ruling party is focused on consolidating its structures ahead of future elections.

He pointed out that preparations for the party’s upcoming national convention remain a top priority, adding that the APC is more concerned with strengthening its internal processes than monitoring rival parties.

Morka further argued that while opposition parties may be preoccupied with the APC’s activities, the ruling party remains committed to its own strategic planning as the next electoral cycle approaches.
