The Presidency has disclosed that Nigeria’s persistent security challenges are taking a personal toll on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, revealing that the President is experiencing sleepless nights over the situation.
This was made known by Abdullahi Yakassai, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement (North-West), during an appearance on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television on Tuesday.
Yakassai explained that although security conditions have improved in certain parts of the country, the battle against insurgency has grown more complex due to a shift in tactics by armed groups, who now rely heavily on guerrilla-style operations.
He noted that the evolving nature of the threat has made it increasingly difficult for security agencies to predict and counter attacks, adding that the President convenes frequent security council meetings at the Presidential Villa in a bid to find lasting solutions.
According to the presidential aide, the prolonged nature of the crisis means responsibility cannot be placed solely on the current administration. He also alleged that certain elements opposed to the government may be fueling insecurity to undermine its efforts and damage its reputation.
Yakassai, however, maintained that there has been noticeable progress in some previously volatile areas. He cited routes between Abuja and Kaduna, as well as parts of Zamfara State, where incidents of insecurity have reportedly declined.
Despite these gains, he said insurgents have redirected their activities to other locations, including Niger and Kwara states. He added that the Inspector General of Police recently visited affected communities in Kwara State, including Kaiama, as part of efforts to address the emerging threats.
He reaffirmed that the Federal Government remains committed to tackling insecurity and restoring stability across the country.
