Governor of Hope Uzodinma has ruled out any plan by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rezone its political offices ahead of the party’s forthcoming national convention.
Uzodinma, who also chairs the Progressive Governors Forum, spoke to journalists after a meeting of the forum in Lagos, stressing that the party’s current zoning structure remains intact. According to him, the convention is not designed to determine candidates for elective offices but to appoint officials who will manage party affairs.
He explained that positions such as the presidency and vice presidency are already occupied and remain unaffected, noting that the process for selecting candidates for public office falls under the responsibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Meanwhile, the Imo governor has intensified consultations with key APC stakeholders in the state ahead of the party’s ward and local government congresses scheduled nationwide. During a meeting at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Chambers in Government House, he called for unity and discipline among members, emphasizing that the outcome of the congresses will significantly influence the party’s future and electoral strength.
Uzodinma urged party leaders and aspirants to embrace dialogue and consensus, advocating inclusive leadership that accommodates differing views. He maintained that internal harmony remains critical to sustaining the party’s electoral success and strengthening its grassroots structure.
