The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed allegations linking President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the party’s internal crises, describing the claims as baseless.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Lagos, the NNPP National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, blamed the party’s ongoing legal disputes and wave of defections on former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Olaposi’s remarks followed accusations by Buba Galadima, who alleged that Tinubu and the APC were sponsoring litigation against the NNPP to weaken the party and hinder its political ambitions.
Rejecting the claims, Olaposi described them as “lazy and empty blackmail,” insisting that Kwankwaso and his allies were responsible for the party’s internal challenges. He accused the former NNPP presidential candidate of attempting to take control of the party despite being given a platform to contest the 2023 elections.
According to him, members of Kwankwaso’s faction—who have since been expelled—have continued to pursue court cases aimed at taking over the party, a situation he said has contributed to the defection of some members.
The NNPP spokesman also called on aggrieved members who left the party due to the lingering disputes to return, assuring them of renewed stability ahead of future elections. He noted that decisions taken at the party’s 2025 national convention in Lagos include rewarding loyal members with automatic tickets.
Olaposi added that the party has commenced electronic registration of members in compliance with guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as part of efforts to strengthen its structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He reaffirmed the NNPP’s commitment to national development, stating that the party remains focused on service rather than political confrontation.
