Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Nigerian Senate to confirm Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance.
The request was contained in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and read during plenary on Tuesday.
In the correspondence, Tinubu urged lawmakers to give expedited consideration to Oyedele’s nomination and complete the screening and confirmation process without delay.
After the letter was read, the Senate referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for immediate legislative consideration.
During the same sitting, Akpabio also presented three additional communications from the President seeking the Senate’s approval for several other appointments.
One of the letters requested confirmation of Mainasara Ilo as the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Anti-Doping Centre. According to the request, Ilo will serve an initial four-year term if confirmed.
The Senate subsequently referred the nomination to its Committee on Narcotics and Sports for further legislative action.
In another correspondence, Tinubu asked lawmakers to confirm nominees for positions at the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission. The President nominated Magnus Abe as chairman of the commission, while Jossy Yaro and Sunday Adebayo were nominated as non-executive commissioners.
These nominations were referred to the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), which was directed to submit its report within one week.
Tinubu also sought approval for appointments into the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission. The nominees are Amina Gamawa from Bauchi State and Abdulahi Muktar from Kaduna State, both nominated as commissioners.
The request was referred to the Senate Committee on National Planning with a directive to present its findings within a week.
Meanwhile, the Senate adjourned plenary until Wednesday, March 11, in honour of the late senator representing Rivers South-East, Barinada Mpigi.
Lawmakers agreed to suspend proceedings for the day as a mark of respect following the lawmaker’s death in the United Kingdom after a prolonged illness.
