Assistant Commissioner of Police, Benjamin Hundeyin, has formally handed over duties to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Okon Placid, following the latter’s appointment as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The handover ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, located in Abuja.

Placid’s appointment was recently approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, as part of ongoing internal restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force.

Confirming the development earlier, the outgoing spokesperson, Hundeyin, announced that the change forms part of the administrative adjustments introduced by the police leadership following the appointment of the current IGP.

Placid, described as a seasoned officer, brings extensive experience spanning administration, operations, intelligence, training and international peacekeeping to his new role.

Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, the new police spokesperson hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, as well as a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. Placid also studied Law at the National Open University of Nigeria.

Placid joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy in 1996 and was commissioned into the force in August 1998.

Over the years, he has attended several professional and international training programmes, including the United Nations Peace Operations Specialised Training (POST). He holds certifications in areas such as Police Studies, Military Studies, Gender Awareness, International Humanitarian Law, Human Rights, and Civilian Protection.

He also participated in the UNITAR Senior Leadership and Peacebuilding course in Kenya.
