Suspected bandits on Friday evening invaded Adanla, a suburb of Igbaja in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting several residents and leaving the community in fear.
The attack occurred around 7 pm on December 26, 2025, when armed assailants reportedly stormed the agrarian community in large numbers. Residents said the attackers fired gunshots indiscriminately as they moved from house to house, forcing people to surrender.
Confirming the incident, the Coordinator of the Kwara South Joint Community Security Watch Network, Elder Olaitan Oyin-Zubair, said the alert was received from Adanla-Irese shortly after the invasion began.
He explained that local security groups immediately mobilised hunters and vigilantes from Igbaja to confront the attackers, while the Brigade Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade was also notified. According to him, soldiers later arrived in the area in two operational vehicles to reinforce local efforts.
However, before security forces could fully secure the community, the attackers had already escaped with abducted victims. Oyin-Zubair said eight persons were taken away, while a woman sustained gunshot injuries during the attack.
Residents told Punch that several others were injured while attempting to flee. Many families reportedly abandoned their homes, hiding in nearby bushes or fleeing to neighbouring communities out of fear of further violence.
As of Saturday morning, there was no official police confirmation of the incident. When contacted, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said she was aware of reports of the attack but had not yet received a full briefing.
She assured that further details would be provided once investigations and official reports were concluded.
