The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, in partnership with the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, will hold a virtual interactive session to discuss the implications of Nigeria’s new tax reform laws on citizens living abroad.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, described the initiative as a demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusivity and transparency in implementing national policies.
Scheduled for Friday, October 10, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. Nigerian time, the session is designed to educate diaspora Nigerians about the recently enacted tax laws and provide a platform for clarifying compliance requirements and addressing concerns.
“As key contributors to national development, it is essential for Nigerians in the diaspora to be fully informed about the new tax framework and its potential implications for their economic activities,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
The virtual dialogue will feature experts from the Presidential Committee and relevant government agencies who will offer practical insights and respond to questions from participants. Interested individuals are encouraged to register in advance through https://forms.gle/gnad3z5Wf7JjcamA8 or by scanning the event’s QR code.
In a separate development, NiDCOM has congratulated Captain Kelechi Ndukwe, a Nigerian-American naval officer, on his promotion to Commander of Destroyer Squadron 60 and Task Force 65 of the United States Navy, based in Rota, Spain.
The commission announced the development in a statement signed by Gabriel Odu from its Media, Public Relations and Protocols unit on September 26, 2025, in Abuja. Ndukwe’s new position places him in charge of U.S. Navy destroyer operations across Europe, Africa, and the Mediterranean, reflecting his extensive service and leadership in international naval operations.
Ndukwe first made history in April 2021 when he became the first Nigerian-American to command a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS Halsey (DDG-97). His rise from being the son of Nigerian immigrants to the upper echelons of the U.S. Navy has been characterized as a testament to dedication, discipline, and excellence.
NiDCOM described the promotion as not only a personal achievement but also a source of pride for Nigeria, the global naval community, and Nigerians living abroad. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to supporting diaspora Nigerians who make significant global impact through their work and values.
“Commander Ndukwe’s career stands as an inspiration for Nigerians worldwide,” the commission stated, extending its congratulations to the distinguished naval officer.
