The newly appointed Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, has thrown his weight behind Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s bid for a second term, promising to personally attend his swearing-in ceremony as the traditional ruler of Ibadan.
The endorsement came during a congratulatory visit by Governor Adeleke to the monarch’s Ibadan residence on Tuesday, ahead of Oba Ladoja’s official coronation scheduled for September 26, 2025.
Speaking during the visit, the Olubadan-designate, who is also a former governor of Oyo State and ex-senator, drew parallels between his political journey and that of Governor Adeleke, noting their shared experiences as both senators and governors.
“Every day we hear of your good works in Osun State, and we are proud of the progress you are bringing to your people,” Oba Ladoja declared. “Your developmental strides should continue beyond 2026 because no one can stop the good work you are doing.”
The traditional ruler praised Adeleke’s performance, particularly highlighting the challenges of governing Osun State. “Your performance as a Governor elates me. Osun is a difficult state to govern but you have changed the narrative. You are doing many wonderful things and I can see Osun people are happy with you,” he stated.
Oba Ladoja expressed confidence in the governor’s leadership abilities, offering prayers for continued success. “My prayer for you is that you will lead Osun to new and greater heights. You will overcome all obstacles on your path of governance. You will continue to shine as a leader of your people.”
The monarch also acknowledged the Adeleke family’s legacy of public service, referencing the governor’s late father and brother, who both served as senators, with the brother also serving as a former governor.
“You are from a family of excellent people. Your father, Senator Adeleke, your brother, my own Serubawon, Senator and former Governor. Thank you for keeping the flag flying,” the Olubadan-designate remarked.
Governor Adeleke, who holds the traditional title of Asiwaju of Edeland, congratulated Oba Ladoja on his elevation to the Ibadan throne, describing it as both well-deserved and historic. He pledged to organize a befitting celebration for the monarch’s upcoming coronation.
“Kabiyesi, I deeply appreciate your guidance and wise counsel. Your leadership legacy continues to inspire me in Osun State. I pray for long life, filled with peace, joy, happiness, and divine blessings on the throne of your forefathers,” the governor said.
The governor was accompanied by key members of his administration, including Secretary to the State Government Hon. Teslim Igbalaye, Chief of Staff Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, Yeyelua Modupeola Sanni-Adeleke, and several commissioners including Otunba Tola Faseru, Hon. Olatunji Ayofe, and Hon. Biyi Odunlade.
