The Federal Government has unveiled ambitious plans to establish cattle breeding centers across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones as part of President Bola Tinubu’s agricultural development strategy.
Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Minister of State for Agriculture, disclosed the initiative during a Citizens’ Government engagement session and midterm review of the Tinubu administration in Kaduna on Wednesday. The event was organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation.
The proposed breeding centers represent a significant component of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at modernizing Nigeria’s livestock sector and addressing longstanding challenges in cattle production across the country.
Speaking at the engagement, Dr. Abdullahi emphasized the importance of inter-ministerial cooperation in implementing the government’s agricultural policies. He highlighted that successful delivery of the Renewed Hope Agenda would require coordinated efforts between the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, Livestock Development, and the Blue Economy.
The establishment of these regional breeding centers is expected to enhance cattle production efficiency, improve genetic quality of livestock, and potentially reduce conflicts between herders and farmers by providing designated areas for cattle rearing.
The initiative comes as the Tinubu administration approaches its midterm, with government officials showcasing key policy implementations and future plans to stakeholders and citizens.
Further details about the timeline, funding, and specific locations for these breeding centers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
