Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru has attributed President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 electoral victory to divine intervention, claiming that God specifically chose the current president despite campaigns by other candidates based on religious sentiments.
Speaking at the All Progressive Congress zonal stakeholders meeting held at the International Conference Center in Abakaliki, the state capital, Governor Nwifuru expressed confidence that no opposition force could prevent Tinubu’s re-election in the South East region during the 2027 presidential contest.
The governor argued that God deliberately overlooked other presidential candidates who relied on religious appeals during the 2023 campaign, emphasizing that divine selection transcends human political calculations.
“God chose President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be president of Nigeria contrary to the wishes and expectations of the opposition in 2023. God ignored others who contested on religious sentiments because God sees the heart of everybody, that is why He brought Tinubu,” Nwifuru declared.
Addressing concerns about potential opposition coalitions forming against the incumbent president, the Ebonyi governor dismissed such efforts as ineffective against what he described as God’s predetermined plan for Nigeria’s leadership.
“No amount of coalition can derail God’s purpose of Tinubu winning the election, come 2027,” he stated with conviction, suggesting that divine backing renders political opposition irrelevant.
Governor Nwifuru praised President Tinubu’s leadership qualities, particularly highlighting his capacity for making decisive choices that he believes Nigeria requires during challenging times.
“Let me assure the people that no one is disturbed by the coalition. No opposition is well prepared more than our President. We need someone who can make bold decisions. President Tinubu has such capacity,” the governor emphasized.
The governor’s comments come amid speculation about potential opposition alliances forming ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with various political parties and movements exploring collaborative strategies to challenge the ruling All Progressive Congress.
By framing Tinubu’s presidency in religious terms, Nwifuru appears to be positioning the president’s leadership as part of a divine mandate, potentially appealing to religious voters who view political outcomes through a spiritual lens.
The statement reflects ongoing efforts by APC governors and stakeholders to build momentum for President Tinubu’s anticipated re-election campaign, with Nwifuru’s remarks suggesting confidence in the party’s prospects despite emerging opposition movements.
The governor’s assertion that God “sees the heart of everybody” when making leadership selections represents an attempt to elevate the president’s political standing beyond conventional electoral calculations, presenting his administration as fulfilling a higher purpose in Nigerian governance.
