A member of the Saudi royal family known as the “Sleeping Prince” has died after remaining in a coma for nearly two decades following a tragic traffic accident in his teenage years.

Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud passed away at a specialized medical facility in Saudi Arabia, ending a prolonged battle that began when he was just 15 years old. The prince, born in April 1990, was the eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, a senior royal family member and nephew of renowned billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal.

The tragedy struck in 2005 while the young prince was pursuing his education as a military cadet in London. A severe road accident left him with critical brain injuries and extensive internal bleeding, plunging him into a state from which he would never fully recover despite treatment by leading medical experts from the United States and Spain.

Throughout more than 20 years of medical care, Prince Al Waleed remained in what doctors described as a minimally responsive state. While he occasionally showed involuntary movements that provided brief moments of hope, he never regained full consciousness. His father, Prince Khaled, maintained a constant vigil, steadfastly refusing suggestions to discontinue life support while holding onto his faith in divine intervention.

The family periodically shared emotional footage showing the prince appearing to respond subtly to recitations from the Quran, moments that resonated deeply with the Saudi public and generated widespread sympathy for their situation.

News of the prince’s death has prompted an overwhelming response of grief and support across Saudi Arabia. Social media platforms witnessed a surge of tributes under the hashtag #SleepingPrince, with thousands of users paying their respects and remembering him as an embodiment of perseverance, religious faith, and unwavering parental devotion.

Over the years, the prince’s hospital room had evolved into a site of spiritual pilgrimage, drawing numerous visitors who came to offer prayers and moral support to the family. His lengthy medical journey became a powerful testament to both human resilience in the face of adversity and the profound depths of familial love and religious conviction.

The prince’s story touched hearts far beyond the royal palace, serving as a poignant reminder of life’s fragility while simultaneously celebrating the strength found in faith, hope, and the unbreakable bonds between parent and child.
