Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that efforts to build a formidable opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections are serious and will soon be unveiled to the public.

The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate made this assertion during a high-profile meeting with Kannywood representatives and influential North West opinion leaders at his residence on Monday.

Speaking to the delegation, Atiku emphasized that the emerging coalition represents a strategic movement to address Nigeria’s current challenges and restore the country’s democratic trajectory.

“The opposition coalition being put together is not a joke, and it will soon be unveiled,” Atiku stated firmly, signaling the seriousness of the political realignment taking shape across the country.

## North West Stakeholders Rally Behind Coalition

The visiting delegation was led by Dr. Aslam Aliyu, a prominent Zamfara politician who heads the PAA 2027 NEW MEDIA & DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS FORUM. The coalition of digital media stakeholders includes members from Kannywood, Zamfara TOP 10, and various other influential groups across the North West region.

According to Atiku, the forum’s leadership informed him of their commitment to support the opposition coalition, driven by their analysis of the 2023 electoral outcomes and identified gaps in voter awareness and information dissemination.

The former Vice President revealed that the coalition’s formation stems from a comprehensive review of the previous election cycle, with stakeholders recognizing the need for better coordination and strategic communication ahead of 2027.

## Regrets Over 2023 Election Support

In a surprising development, some forum members who previously supported President Tinubu’s candidacy have now expressed deep regret over their decision. These stakeholders openly acknowledged their role in what they now describe as “foisting an incompetent and clueless leadership on Nigeria.”

This shift in allegiance among former APC supporters represents a significant political development, potentially signaling broader dissatisfaction with the current administration’s performance among northern political elites.

The coalition builders have committed to backing ongoing opposition efforts, viewing the 2027 elections as a crucial opportunity to change Nigeria’s political direction.

Strategic Focus on Recovery and Rebuilding

Atiku framed the coalition’s mission as a “deliberate effort to recover and rebuild Nigeria in line with the yearnings and aspirations of the people.” This messaging suggests the opposition will campaign on themes of national restoration and responsiveness to citizens’ needs.

The former Vice President assured the visiting delegation that the 2027 election cycle “will not be business as usual,” indicating that the opposition intends to employ new strategies and approaches in their bid to challenge the ruling APC.

Implications for 2027 Politics

The announcement of this coalition effort comes at a time when Nigeria faces significant economic and security challenges. The involvement of media stakeholders and entertainment industry figures through Kannywood suggests the opposition is prioritizing communication and narrative control in their electoral strategy.

The coalition’s emphasis on addressing “voter awareness and information gaps” indicates lessons learned from the 2023 elections, where information warfare and digital campaigns played crucial roles in shaping public opinion.

As political activities intensify ahead of 2027, Atiku’s coalition announcement signals the beginning of what promises to be a highly competitive electoral contest, with opposition forces organizing early to challenge President Tinubu’s potential re-election bid.
