Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that he sustains himself financially through rental income from one of his properties.
Speaking at an All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus meeting held at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Government House in Katsina State, on Saturday, Buhari emphasized his commitment to accountability during his time in office.
The former president stated, “After my eight years as a civil president, I have only three houses: one in Daura and two in Kaduna. I have given one out for rent where I get money for feeding.”
Buhari highlighted that he refrained from corrupt practices or enriching himself with public funds while serving as president, reiterating the importance of transparency and accountability for political and public officeholders.
Describing Nigeria as a challenging country to govern, Buhari noted the complexities and burdens of leadership, explaining that those outside the corridors of power may not fully understand the difficulties facing the nation.
“Those outside the corridors of power do not understand the complexities and difficulties facing Nigeria,” he said, reflecting on the immense challenges his administration faced despite its efforts to address the country’s issues.
The former president, who handed over to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in May 2023, also remarked on his improved well-being since leaving office, stating, “My health has improved since leaving office. People who visited me told me I look better than before.”
