President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja on Sunday for Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to participate in the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit scheduled for January 27–28, 2025.
The announcement was made in a statement on Saturday by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to him, the summit, hosted by the Tanzanian government in collaboration with the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank, aims to accelerate progress on “Mission 300,” an ambitious initiative to provide electricity access to 300 million Africans by 2030.
“President Tinubu is committed to championing solutions to Africa’s energy challenges and will use the platform to reaffirm Nigeria’s leadership role in advancing universal energy access across the continent.”
The summit will bring together African leaders, private sector representatives, development partners, and civil society organizations to discuss strategies for addressing Africa’s energy deficit. Key areas of focus include renewable energy, energy efficiency, mobilizing private sector investments, and expanding energy access to underserved regions.
On the first day, ministers from participating countries, including Nigeria, will present their national energy strategies termed “compacts” detailing their roadmaps for achieving universal energy access within five years.
The second day will feature Heads of State endorsing the “Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration,” a unified blueprint for achieving the Mission 300 objectives.
President Tinubu is expected to deliver a national statement during the summit, where he will highlight Nigeria’s ongoing efforts in clean energy development and integrated energy delivery. “Nigeria is committed to achieving universal energy access and will continue to lead by example in driving sustainable energy solutions across Africa,” the president is expected to say during his address.
Accompanying the president on the trip are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu; Special Adviser to the President on Energy, Olu Verheijen; and other senior government officials.
President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Abuja immediately after the conclusion of the summit.
