President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Plateau State following the death of Lieutenant-General Jeremiah Useni (retd.), a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The elder statesman passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness. Tinubu extended his sympathies to Useni’s family, friends, military colleagues, and political associates, including the citizens of Plateau State.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Useni as a courageous and dedicated leader who inspired younger officers to prioritize the nation above personal interests.
“President Tinubu says Useni demonstrated courage and dedication throughout his military career and inspired many young officers to prioritize national interests above personal gain,” the statement read.
The President also commended Useni’s contributions to Nigerian politics, noting his role as Deputy National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and his tenure as Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District.
“The President states that the late Useni also made some difference in politics as deputy national chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party and senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District,” Onanuga added.
Tinubu prayed for God Almighty to grant Useni eternal rest and provide solace to his family.
