The Ogun State Police Command has raised alarm over a surge in reports of missing persons in the state, urging residents to remain vigilant and adopt safety precautions.

Speaking on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, emphasized the need for parents and guardians to avoid allowing their children to use commercial transportation services with strangers, citing findings from recent cases.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the police disclosed that while a small number of missing individuals have been successfully located, a significant fraction regrettably did not return home.

“As a proactive and community-oriented force, the Command is committed to raising public awareness about this concerning trend and encouraging everyone to prioritize their safety by maintaining a heightened sense of security as a way to avoid becoming a victim,” the statement read.

The police commissioner also advised restless youths to leverage digital tools such as social media and location-sharing features on mobile devices to alert family and friends in times of distress, especially while traveling.

“Additionally, restless youth are encouraged to activate digital communication and sharing features on their mobile devices while traveling, especially during moments of distress,” the Command urged.

Highlighting key measures to enhance public safety, Ogunlowo stated: “The Commissioner of Police has outlined these measures as essential guidelines to keep the residents of Ogun State informed about the most pressing issues.”

The Command further enjoined the public to promptly report any security threat or emergency situation by contacting the police control room or the Public Relations Department.

“It is crucial to inform the public that the control room can be contacted at 09164859299, and the Police Public Relations Department can be reached at 09159578888. The Command is also active on all social media platforms,” the statement added.

Residents were urged to cooperate with the police by sharing any relevant information that could help safeguard lives and properties across the state.

The Ogun State Police Command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and encouraged everyone to remain security-conscious in their daily activities.
