Abia Governor Alex Otti Declares God as His Only ‘Godfather’

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, has declared that the God in heaven is his only ‘godfather,’ emphasizing his independence from political influences and external pressures in the governance of the state.

Otti made this assertion during a Thanksgiving service held at St. James Methodist Church in Umuda, Isingwu, Umuahia North Council, organized by Hon. Smart Ihuoma, the Mayor of the council. He reaffirmed his commitment to running an administration anchored on faith and guided by an open-door policy.

“One of the challenges in politics is that when people enter office on the support or finances of someone else, it becomes easy for that person to dictate to them,” Otti said.

“But I can assure you that we are standing on our feet. Our only godfather is the God in heaven. We operate an open-door policy, so we are willing to listen to suggestions, but they will not be treated as orders.”

The governor, who addressed the pressures often faced by political officeholders from their sponsors, insisted that his administration operates independently and will not bow to undue influence. He added that it is now too late for anyone to derail his government, which he described as firmly rooted in faith.

Otti also expressed optimism that the accomplishments of his administration will set a high standard for governance in Abia State, making it difficult for individuals without substance to contest future elections.

“By the time we are done serving, those with nothing to offer will find it impossible to contest elections in Abia State,” he stated.

The governor drew parallels with the transformation of Anambra State in 1999 under the leadership of Dr. Chris Ngige, whose brief but impactful tenure established a benchmark for future governors.

“Look at Anambra State under Dr. Chris Ngige; his short time in office set a standard that all future governors were expected to meet. That is the kind of benchmark we are building in Abia State,” Otti said.

Otti’s comments highlight his administration’s focus on independence, accountability, and delivering tangible results to the people of Abia State. He reiterated that while he welcomes reasonable suggestions, every decision taken will be in the best interest of the state.

The Thanksgiving service provided an opportunity for reflection and celebration, with Hon. Smart Ihuoma and other dignitaries commending Governor Otti for his leadership style and unwavering commitment to good governance.

Observers see Otti’s remarks as a direct response to critics and political opponents, affirming his resolve to lead without external interference and focus on policies that will benefit the people of Abia State.
