German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to arrive in Nigeria on Tuesday, December 10, for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations.

The German Embassy in Nigeria confirmed the visit in a statement, highlighting its significance for bilateral relations.

During his stay, President Steinmeier is scheduled to meet with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, Alieu Omar Touray, in Abuja.

The German leader’s itinerary will also include a visit to Lagos, where he will interact with business representatives, explore a start-up hub, and engage with members of Nigeria’s cultural sector and civil society.

“President Steinmeier will be accompanied by a business delegation of CEOs and high-ranking board members from some of Germany’s most successful companies in IT, high-tech, and energy,”

“This is an indication of the rising interest of German businesses in opportunities to invest in Nigeria.” The Embassy revealed.

The Embassy emphasized the importance of the visit, describing Nigeria as a key partner for Germany in Africa. “This visit sends a strong signal: Nigeria is an important political, economic, and cultural partner of Germany in Africa,” the statement read.

The inclusion of prominent business leaders in the delegation underscores Germany’s commitment to exploring new investment opportunities in Nigeria’s dynamic economy, particularly in technology and energy sectors.

The visit is expected to deepen cooperation between the two countries and promote mutual interests in trade, innovation, and cultural exchange.
