Nigeria and Brazil to Sign Livestock and Agricultural Agreements at 2024 G20 Summit

President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi, has announced that Nigeria and Brazil plan to formalize a groundbreaking livestock development agreement at the 2024 G20 Summit.

The agreement, alongside other agricultural initiatives, aims to strengthen food security for both nations.

Ajayi shared the update on Tuesday via his X (formerly Twitter) account, describing the recently concluded G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as a significant success for Nigeria.

“Great outing for Nigeria and President Tinubu at the G20 Summit in Rio. The summit ended yesterday (Tuesday) at the corporate level, and leaders are now beginning bilateral meetings. Nigeria and Brazil will be signing agreements on livestock development and other agricultural production to advance the food security agenda of the Federal Government,” Ajayi wrote.

President Bola Tinubu, addressing the G20 leaders during the summit, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating poverty, hunger, and food insecurity. He highlighted the alignment between Brazil’s prioritization of addressing hunger and poverty and Nigeria’s economic policies.

“Brazil’s accordance of priority to the fight against hunger and poverty aligns with Nigeria’s current economic policies. When I took office in 2023, I unveiled an 8-Point Agenda. Priority 3 focused on boosting agriculture to achieve food security through the development of commodity value chains and the provision of infrastructure support. Priority 6 focuses on education, health, and social investment as essential pillars of development,” Tinubu stated.

The President also announced Nigeria’s endorsement of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty declaration, describing it as a crucial step toward achieving socio-economic development and inclusive growth.

“Nigeria’s endorsement of the declaration of commitment to join the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty is a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to address hunger and poverty. The endorsement demonstrates our commitment to leveraging international cooperation and resources to bolster domestic strategies that will deliver inclusive growth and socio-economic development,” he said.

The planned agreements with Brazil signal a new phase in Nigeria’s drive to enhance agricultural production and tackle food insecurity, underscoring the Tinubu administration’s broader goal of fostering sustainable development and economic resilience.
