Nigerian Military Warns Zamfara Terrorists: ‘Surrender or Face Full Offensive’

Military Takes Action Following Killing of 16 Soldiers in Delta

The Nigerian Armed Forces have issued a strong warning to terrorists operating in Zamfara and surrounding states, giving them a clear ultimatum: surrender or face the full might of military firepower.

This comes as part of the military’s renewed efforts to combat banditry and put an end to the persistent violence that has gripped the region.

Major General Oluyinka Soyele, the Theatre Commander of the newly launched Operation Fansar Yamma, delivered the warning during a visit to Governor Dauda Lawal at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State’s capital.

General Soyele made it clear that the terrorists have only one choice—surrender or be eliminated.

Zamfara, located in Northwest Nigeria, has been at the epicenter of banditry for over a decade, with residents suffering from repeated attacks, kidnappings, and killings. In recent weeks, the Gusau-Funtua Highway has become a frequent target of terrorist assaults.

General Soyele reassured the public that the Nigerian Armed Forces are fully prepared to launch a major offensive against the terrorists, with the goal of eradicating them not just in Zamfara but across the entire Northwest region.

He emphasized the need for local support, urging citizens to provide timely and accurate information about the locations of terrorist hideouts.

“We are more committed than ever to ensuring that Zamfara State and the entire Northwest are free from terrorist activities. We are fully ready to take the fight to them. It’s either they surrender or they face death,” Soyele stated.

He further explained that the military is actively engaging with local communities and village leaders to highlight the critical role their cooperation plays in defeating terrorism.

“We are reaching out to local communities and village heads, emphasizing that their support is essential in overcoming this menace. Aiding the terrorists will only prolong the suffering. Alongside our kinetic operations, we will also carry out non-kinetic measures to address the situation,” Soyele added.

Governor Dauda Lawal acknowledged the increasing attacks along the Gusau-Funtua Highway and reassured the public that his administration is working closely with the military to restore peace and stability in the region.

Operation Fansar Yamma was recently established by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during his visit to Zamfara. The new operation will integrate efforts from Operation Hadarin Daji and other military initiatives in the Northwest, creating a unified theatre command to strengthen the fight against terrorism and banditry in the region.
