Former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, has revealed that Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), is currently under investigation for alleged terrorism financing and related offenses.
Amachree made this claim on Tuesday during an interview on Channels TV, stating that Ajaero should not be permitted to leave the country while the investigation is ongoing.
“There is an active investigation into Ajaero, and as a result, he is not supposed to leave Nigeria,” Amachree said. “The allegations against him involve terrorism financing, and while that investigation is in progress, he should remain in the country.”
Amachree also linked Ajaero to Andrew Wynne, an individual suspected of terrorism financing who is currently in London. He insinuated that Ajaero might attempt to communicate with Wynne if allowed to travel to the United Kingdom. “Wynne, who is reportedly a tenant of Ajaero, is based in London and continues to make statements from there,” Amachree added.
He clarified that the investigation pertains to Ajaero as an individual, not in his capacity as the President of the NLC. According to Amachree, Ajaero has likely been on the security agencies’ watch list, which led to his interception at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday morning.
Amachree further alleged that, if given the chance, Ajaero could have fled Nigeria like Nadeem Anjarwalla, a wanted executive from Binance. He emphasized that Ajaero must face the allegations, stating, “Joe Ajaero has a terrorism case to answer and is not above the law.”
The former DSS official also called on Nigerian intelligence agencies to take all necessary measures to have Wynne extradited from the UK to Nigeria for further investigation.
